Radishes

Here's the thing: I love radishes.

And by that I don't necessarily mean only eating them. I mean the fact you can plant some radish seeds, be the worst gardener in the world, and still have radishes sprout from the earth. Radishes are a forgiving, hardworking little vegetable.

When I plant radishes, I am rewarded with a whole cluster of success. They sprout in neat little pairs of heart-shaped leaves. They grow quickly. They are easy to pick once they're big enough to eat, easy to rinse, and good with a little butter and salt. Salt if you use sweet butter, otherwise, a little butter, and some more salt.

Cut a cross in them, press a little butter in, sprinkle a little salt from between your fingers, and eat them.

Radishes make you feel like you garden well, have a tongue for spice, and understand butter.
